You might have seen this short video – Everyone on DMT Meets the Same 9-Foot Purple Being — Here’s Why -taken from my appearance on The Soul Inspired podcast with Joe Borowsky. And, you might be wondering : “what’s the connection to NDEs?”
I saw reports about research being conducted in England, in which volunteers were being given steady doses of DMT intravenously over longer periods of time. Their DMT trips lasted for greater than 30 minutes, sometimes up to an hour or more. The volunteers never spoke with or coordinated their activities with other volunteers, and in fact they had no idea who else had participated in the experiments.
Imagine that – walking up to random college students on campus and asking them “Hey, want to trip balls for science?” I’m assuming they had no shortage of volunteers.
The volunteers were interviewed after the experiment was over and – guess what – they all reported encountering the same sorts of purple “entities” while tripping. They’re always there, you can have conversations with them, and if you do DMT again you can return and encounter the same beings.
All of this was made famous by the comedian Shane Mauss. Rather than me trying to write a bunch of words to explain what happens when you’re on DMT – just watch this video:
The conclusions are logical and actually pretty simple to understand if you don’t get all hung up on being a “serious scientist” with tenure and a job at a university to protect. DMT apparently causes humans to “frequency shift” – making us able to see things that are actually there all the time, but we normally can’t see them.

This sort of thing ties in directly to my research into Near Death Experiences (NDEs) at a really fundamental level. People die, they have an Out of Body Experience (OBE), their soul departs their physical body and they travel to another plane, meet God, go through their Life Review, walk through a wonderful garden where they can talk to plants and insects, encounter the spirits of deceased relatives, review their Life Plan and their previous reincarnations, and then eventually decide to return to their current life.
Now, all of that sounds pretty “trippy.” None of it can be empirically proven with modern science and medicine. Doctors and psychiatrists spend all of their time staring at the dead body and taking measurements, trying to explain it all away as a lack of oxygen, too much carbon dioxide, a flood of normal body chemicals and hormones, bursts of electrical activity in the brain, or what have you. I studied this extensively and included a chapter in my book entitled “The Science of Denial.”
So when I ran into this concept of DMT trippers repeatedly encountering the same purple entities, I immediately recognized that there’s got to be some sort of connection to the NDE phenomenon.
Limitations Of The Brain
One of the NDE experiencer accounts related how when she talked to the “bright white light” that we now call “God” – she had a lot of questions. Before moving on, please watch this video of Elizabeth Krohn talking about her Near Death Experience on the Coming Home podcast;
Struck By Lightning: Skeptic Discovers Life After Death
Elizabeth was on the other side for a long “time.” It’s important to note time is irrelevant, because “time” as we understand it simply does not exist on the other side. She could have literally been there asking questions for a “million years” when to us on earth it would be practically instantaneous.
During her question and answer session with God, one question led to an answer, which led to another question, and so on. She was told great details about quantum physics, quantum mechanics, how everything works, all of the secrets of the universe, nothing held back, all of it explained. And, at the moment she remembers being able to completely understand and remember all of it. Every little detail.
But, there’s a problem. She eventually returned to her physical body on earth. She expressed severe frustration with not being able to remember everything she was told. She said – talking about her own brain – “it’s like looking at the world through pea soup.”
Our brains are limited, by design. Much the same way that out eyes can only do what our eyes are physically able to do on earth. But during an NDE many people report things like having perfect vision. Being able to see in all directions at once – up, down, front, back – 360 degree perfect vision. Also, being able to “zoom in” to see the details of something that’s far away, simply by thinking about it.
People who were born blind who have never seen anything at all during this life on earth report having perfect vision during an NDE. People commonly report having telepathic communications during NDEs, even with things like plants and insects. There’s another trick our human bodies are not very good at.
So maybe humans can’t understand quantum physics and how the universe actually works, because we’re not supposed to. Did you watch the Shane Mauss video above? Remember how he said for some reason he can’t even remember the name of the purple Gypsy woman he’s apparently dating in the DMT realm? That’s the same “veil of forgetfulness” that’s imposed on people who have an NDE. So DMT trippers and NDE experiencers are basically spiritual “cousins” in a way. There are cross-over elements there.
Lanmaoa asiatica and Lilliputian “hallucinations”
Until very recently I thought DMT trippers were in a class of their own. Turns out, that’s not the case.
Earlier this week I was researching NDE experiences in China. While conducting that research I encountered Lanmaoa asiatica – a cool little mushroom that only seems to grow in three parts of the world – China, the Philippines, and Papua New Guinea.

What makes this mushroom special? If you eat it without proper preparation – you’re going to see little people. Very small tiny people. In your room. Right there where you are. Climbing over your furniture. Jumping around, making clowns of themselves, marching in formations, what have you.

And here’s the connection to DMT and the purple entities. Anyone and everyone who eats these mushrooms has the same experience. They all see little people. Scientists call these “Lilliputian hallucinations” because – quite simply – the concept that these little people might actually be there all the time (and we just can’t see them) would get them fired from the University. So – they are called “hallucinations.”
I doubt it. I think whatever compound is contained in the Lanmaoa asiatica mushrooms simply functions on the human brain in a similar way as DMT – causing us to “frequency shift.” Now you can see what’s actually there all the time, but we’re just not “supposed” to be able to see it. Like the veil of forgetfulness. The soul’s brain being able to completely understand quantum physics and mechanics, but the human “pea soup” brain can’t.
It’s fascinating.
People eat these mushrooms all the time. If they are properly cooked then most the effect is lost. So, the only possible – logical – conclusion is the mushrooms contain an unknown chemical compound that’s destroyed be heat.

In one report a dish containing these mushrooms was placed on the table along with a timer set to 15 minutes. The waiter warned the customers to not eat the dish until after the timer had gone off, or else they would “see little people.”
Conclusions:
I think there’s some sort of connectivity between all of these sorts of things humans don’t fully understand. I think there are things we can’t understand – by design. Referring back to the “veil of forgetfulness” of NDEs. There are something things people can remember, and there are somethings they “can’t” remember because the human brain is built to not be able to understand them.
I think NDEs, DMT trips, and these mushrooms are all a sort of “kissing cousins” – sharing parts of their DNA that we are starting to figure out.
Here’s the really cool part – prove me wrong. You proving me wrong is just as impossible as me proving that I’m right. It’s just an interesting concept to consider.
It’s a work in progress. Can anyone “prove” the existence of God? People who have had an NDE, who have communicated with the “bright white light” will tell you without a doubt – that “entity” is what humans have labeled as “God.”
Whatever. Let’s add some trippy mushrooms to the NDE dining room table. You want fries with that?
