Origins: God, Hell, and Religion

Three of the oldest ideas humanity ever had. One investigation into where they actually came from.

For most of recorded history, God, Hell, and religion have been treated as revelations handed down from beyond. This series makes a different case, built entirely from evidence: all three have origins. Human origins. And they can be traced.

God. Where the idea came from, and why every culture on earth arrived at a version of it. (Book One — available now)

Hell. Real, terrifying, and located somewhere nobody expected. (Book Two — available now)

Religion. How the whole apparatus got built on top of the first two. (Book Three — in progress)

Hell Exists, But Only For The Living The Origins of Hell

By Don Winner

What This Book Is About

The first book concluded there is no hell. No judgment, no punishment, no gatekeeper waiting on the other side. Then came the pushback: what about the distressing near-death experiences?

So the data got pulled. All of it. And the conclusion reversed.

Hell exists. It is real, it is terrifying, and every account of it deserves to be believed. But it is not a destination, and nobody is sent there. Hell happens in the living human brain — under catastrophe, in a body that cannot move, at the outer limit of what fear can generate. It is tens of thousands of years old. It predates every scripture, every doctrine, every institution that later wrote it down and attached conditions to it.

Hell belonged to humanity long before it belonged to any religion.

Hell Exists, But Only For The Living grants the witnesses every word and takes apart only the interpretation. The people describing these experiences are not lying. They went somewhere terrible. They were simply never told what it was.

You’re Going to Die Someday, Right? Near Death Experiences Reveal What Happens Next

What This Book Is About

Millions of people around the world have had near-death experiences. They come from every culture, every religion, every era of human history. And they keep describing the same things — the tunnel, the light, the life review, the reunion with loved ones, the overwhelming sense of peace.

This is not coincidence. This is data.

You’re Going to Die Someday, Right? applies a professional intelligence analyst’s framework to the global body of NDE research. The result is both surprising and inevitable: the origin of every human concept of God, soul, heaven, and afterlife traces directly back to ancient near-death experiences. The campfire stories told by our earliest ancestors — stories of what happens when you die — became the seed of every religion on earth.

You are going to die someday. This book explains what the evidence says happens next.

426 pages. 25 chapters. Available in paperback and eBook.

What Readers Are Saying

“The author repeatedly places modern medical accounts alongside older historical descriptions preserved in cultural or oral traditions, highlighting how similar the core reported experiences are even when interpretation differs widely… the book reads less like a philosophical argument and more like an organized review of reported human experiences.”

“What stood out to me most was the author’s focus on the repeated patterns that appear across cultures, religions, and historical periods… The author’s argument that ancient campfire stories may have shaped early concepts of the soul, the afterlife, reincarnation, and divine beings gave the book a fascinating historical perspective.”

“Don Winner highlights how people from different parts of the world, with different beliefs and life experiences, often describe remarkably similar events during Near Death Experiences… The author’s method of treating these stories as evidence rather than fantasy gives the book a grounded and logical tone.”
